Nikon Coolpix S80

Follow The Digital NewsRoom on Twitter This year, Nikon's designers found the way back to their drawing table ! Nikon plays big with the new S80's design which, we have to say, is quite stunning and should offset some camera specs which may seem a little obsolete like its 5X 35-175mm optical zoom, yet optically and digitally stabilized. Smartly engineered, the body gets a rubber coated hood which becomes a handy handgrip when the camera is powered on. Quite slim, the camera is only 16.5mm thick according to the new CIPA standard for camera measurement.
The Nikon Coolpix S80 is capable of recording 720p HD video at a frame rate of 30 fps and offers a stereo built-in microphone and an HDMI output, always convenient to share videos on an HDTV. Movies are recorded in AVC/H.264 format. Note that, unfortunately, this camera is not compatible with SDXC memory cards and will only support SD or SDHC cards.
Are you looking for the buttons on the rear side of the camera ? Don't... there aren't any ! The Coolpix S80 is fully touch-screen operated when its little borther, the Coolpix S4000 offers a smart mix of tactile and physical user interface. The S80 is entirely operated through the tactile wide 3.5 screen offering an interesting resolution of 819 000 pixels and the image quality (contrast, colors, brightness) of the AMOLED technology. It's peredecssor's interface was not quite a success and Nikon claims to have improved it on the S80.
